As my term as AADC President begins AADC is committed, once again, to broadening its base, expanding existing programs for its members and continuing in its long history of community involvement and service. I want to thank Patrick Paul, my predecessor, for his tireless dedication to the organization during his year as President and for the success and progress which we enjoyed during his term. I also want to thank our outgoing Board Members Lori Berke, David Damron, Brenden Griffin, Sean Healy, Rob Royal and Bob Spurlock for their numerous contributions to AADC during their terms. I want to congratulate our newest Board Members Robin Burgess, Holly Davies, Mike Obert, Richard Rea and Jon Wallack. I look forward to working with all of them during the coming year.
For our members this year we will continue to build on the successes of our substantive law committees and are in the process of creating new committees. These committees allow our members an opportunity to become more actively involved in the AADC. AADC continues to maintain a list-serve that allows the membership to communicate with one another regarding experts and other areas relevant to their practices. AADC files amicus briefs in support of member positions relating to issues of broad significance to the membership. AADC provides advocacy luncheons and seminars and publishes a newsletter for its members.
Our September kick-off reception honoring our past Presidents and a distinguished member of the Plaintiff’s Bar, Ted Schmidt, was a great success. AADC will again be hosting members of the judiciary at its judicial receptions in Phoenix and Tucson in December. Our membership is once again invited to attend our annual retreat which will be held in late spring or early summer of next year.
AADC continues to give back to the community by sponsoring ASU Law School’s Closing Argument Competition, running the State Bar’s Pro Bono Attorney Malpractice program, sponsoring awards for statewide high school mock trial championships, contributing to the Devereaux Foundation with proceeds from AADC’s Young Lawyer’s softball tournament and providing an annual contribution to the ALS Association from the proceeds of its annual golf tournament.
I am looking forward to the year ahead and encourage all members to participate in the AADC whether through the AADC substantive law committees, articles for the AADC newsletter, attending and/or speaking at AADC seminars and functions, or attending the numerous social events offered by the organization.
